A Q&A with David Cimbalnik, Product Owner, RealGreen Mobile

RealGreen Mobile is the field service mobile app that RealGreen rebuilt from the ground up to replace its legacy Mobile Live application. Built for lawn care and green industry technicians, it delivers offline reliability, faster job workflows and a modern platform ready for new integrations and AI. We sat down with David Cimbalnik, the product owner behind the rebuild.

Why Did RealGreen Rebuild Its Mobile App Instead of Patching the Old One?

For over a decade, Mobile Live served as our flagship mobile application. Its long tenure allowed it to mature into a feature-rich solution, but the aging legacy codebase eventually hit a tipping point. The engineering team was spending a disproportionate amount of time patching stability issues and managing technical debt, which limited our capacity to deliver the new features our users were requesting.

A full rebuild was the right answer because the old architecture simply could not support where we needed to go. Patching was not going to get us, or our customers, there. Migrating to a modern, scalable technology stack opened the door to new integrations and AI components that were not possible before.

What Is the Difference Between Mobile Live and RealGreen Mobile?

RealGreen Mobile is the next evolution of Mobile Live, rebuilt on a modern platform. Here is how the two compare:

  • Architecture: Mobile Live ran on an aging legacy codebase, while RealGreen Mobile runs on a modern, scalable technology stack.
  • Offline use: Mobile Live assumed a reliable connection, while RealGreen Mobile is built to work offline and sync automatically when connectivity returns.
  • Workflow: Mobile Live required extra taps and steps, while RealGreen Mobile streamlines the job to reduce time in the app.
  • Future features: Mobile Live was difficult to extend, while RealGreen Mobile is ready for integrations, Map View, Technician Tracker and AI.

How Does RealGreen Mobile Improve the Technician Experience?

We wanted a workflow that kept technicians focused on the job rather than on navigating an application. Everything we built was in service of that goal: reducing unnecessary taps, streamlining the sequence of tasks and shortening the time it takes to complete a job. The result is a meaningful increase in production value for the technicians using it every day. For teams weighing their options, we broke down the market in our guide to the best lawn care apps for providers.

What Does Offline Capability Mean for a Field Technician?

Supporting a technician's most critical needs, whether they are offline or in an area with spotty connectivity, was a core design priority. In practice, that means technicians are not hit with loading screens mid-job or left stuck because their signal dropped. They can keep moving.

A lot of field software assumes a reliable connection, and that assumption breaks down constantly in the real world, in basements, on rural routes and in areas where the signal is not there. RealGreen Mobile is built to handle that reality. Their work does not stop, their data does not disappear, and when connectivity returns everything syncs automatically in real-time. They never have to think about it.

How Did Customer Feedback Shape RealGreen Mobile?

We spent countless hours, both virtual and in person, working alongside active RealGreen customers to identify the most critical areas of improvement. The loudest and most consistent issue was workflow disruption in the legacy app. The new architecture and offline capabilities solved that directly, and technicians who were losing time to connectivity issues are getting those hours back. That same feedback loop also shapes our broader lawn care CRM software and business tools.

Why Has the RealGreen Mobile Roadmap Evolved So Much?

Our roadmap was deliberately fluid, because we did not want to simply copy and paste the legacy app into a new shell. Instead, we worked with customers at every step to prioritize the feature set and co-create the application alongside them. That approach made us more agile than we had ever been, delivering on customer feedback in real-time rather than building in isolation and hoping we got it right. The same philosophy guides our wider landscaping business management software.

What Is the Best Way to Deploy RealGreen Mobile for the First Time?

Go in with patience and a plan. Change is hard no matter what it involves, and knowing the end goal will help push your team through the challenging points.

With larger companies, we have seen success starting with a small subset of senior technicians. Treat that group as trainers who will champion the new app across the rest of the business. It creates internal advocates and reduces the friction of a company-wide rollout. Features like automated property estimating make it easier to show early value during that rollout.

What Is Next for RealGreen Mobile?

We are just getting started. Over the last couple of years, our mission was to bring RealGreen Mobile to feature parity with Mobile Live so we could sunset the legacy app. Now that we have achieved that, we are focused on building the features customers have requested for over a decade. Capabilities like Map View and Technician Tracker are now unblocked, and this summer we are integrating an AI assistant that will give technicians more time on the job and less time in the app.

With over three decades of industry experience supporting some of the largest brands in the green industry, RealGreen has built an app designed to support operators regardless of the size of their organization or where they are in their growth journey. Whether you run one crew or thousands, RealGreen Mobile is built to help you grow and operate efficiently from the field.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does RealGreen Mobile work without an internet connection?

Yes. RealGreen Mobile is built for offline use. Technicians can keep working in basements, on rural routes or anywhere the signal drops, and their data is saved on the device. When connectivity returns, everything syncs automatically in real-time, so no work is lost and no job is interrupted.

What happened to RealGreen Mobile Live?

Mobile Live was the previous flagship RealGreen app. After RealGreen Mobile reached feature parity, the legacy Mobile Live app is being sunset. RealGreen Mobile replaces it with a modern technology stack, offline support and a foundation for new features like Map View, Technician Tracker and an AI assistant.

Who is RealGreen Mobile built for?

RealGreen Mobile is built for lawn care and green industry field technicians and the businesses that run them. It supports operations of any size, from a single crew to thousands of technicians, and focuses on reducing time in the app so crews can spend more time completing jobs.

Does RealGreen Mobile include AI features?

RealGreen is integrating an AI assistant into RealGreen Mobile in summer 2026. The assistant is designed to save technicians time by reducing manual steps, letting them focus on the job and the customer experience rather than on interacting with the software.
